The experts’ 3 Good movies of 2009
Here are the 3 best movies of 2009 that got our adrenaline pumping and the dynamite exploding. We love good movies and have seen hundreds in our time.
- Food, Inc. Denial. It’s what’s for dinner… breakfast, lunch and snacks. It’s also why you might want to put that cheeseburger down (if you didn’t after seeing ‘Super Size Me’) and face the hard facts presented in this stunning expose. Oft-referred-to as the “scariest movie of 2009,” this Food Inc is a mind-boggling — and stomach-turning — look into the bowels, er, mechanics of the companies and government agencies largely responsible for America’s E.coli-related illnesses and escalating obesity epidemic.
- The Hangover. Not since ‘Borat’ have we laughed as hard (and constantly) as during ‘The Hangover,’ the rare laugher in which nearly every scene is hysterical. Sure, it made Bradley Cooper leading man material, but the real stars are breakout Zach Galifianakis — who steals every single scene he speaks in — and Ken Jeong’s (making stereotypes hilarious as Mr. Chow). Add in Ed Helms’ missing tooth and a Phil Collins-loving Mike Tyson, and that’s the formula for laughing till you cry. The Hangover 720p the biggest comedy of all time for a reason.
- Up. Everyone knew Pixar’s latest was going to be good (it’s Pixar, duh!), but nothing about “an old man attaches balloons to his house and flies away” prepared us for the heartbreaking sadness, the meltingly tender love story, the wondrous journey and the irrepressible sense of fun that permeated this truly exquisite film. It’s no small thing to say this, but Up the movie might just be the best movie Pixar’s ever made.
